Alrighty. This is a preliminary post to see when everyone is available for a weekend of Long Island offroading, Beach wheeling, BBQ's and maybe some fishing.
The main purpose for this event is to get the UNYX/Nexterra guys their NY State Beach 4 wheel fishing permits, so they can come down and wheel anytime with us, or on their own,etc..
Second purpose is to break in those newly aquired beach permits, and do some fishing/wheeling/bbqin on the beach.
Please Vote to what weekend you'd like to do this..
Here is the general schedule I'm looking to do..
Saturday morning.. Everyone arrives from out of town, local, etc..
We can meet at the rest stop on the LIE before Exit 53 (sagtikos pky south), where the railroad car is (going eastbound).
Figure around 9:30-10am we'll meet there..
We all caravan down Sag parkway to Robert moses beach state park office.
Those of you without permits, purchase permits for $49, make sure you bring your truck's registration, and a license (to be safe).
Once everyone has their permits, we can head over to get lunch (anywhere). 12pm-2pm +/-
I'll do more research about that, maybe we'll hit Phil's (Get our own private section)..
Then we can head over to the Wading River spot to play around for a few hours before it starts to get dark..
Here are the options for dinner.. Hit a supermarket and pick up burgers, dogs, wings, etc..
And head to the beach (Sore thumb, or Gilgo Beach) and BBQ our dinner and chill out for the rest of the night, either fishing or just chilling on the beach.
Or we could go out to dinner somewhere, then we can hit the beach and chill out..
For sleeping. You are only allowed to sleep in a vehicle on the beach, No tents allowed (aside from a bathroom).
So everyone can sleep in their trucks, OR we can get campsites some where close. (I'll have to research it, further if there is that much interest in camping).
Or there are hotel rooms for those who dont want to either sleep in the truck or camp..
Hotels probably arent going to be cheap, and definitely not close to the beach.
Sunday morning, cook up some breakfast (or head out somewhere locally)
Either chill out at the beach, and do some fishing, more chilling out or
Head out to the wading river spot for some more playing in the mud.
Then grab some lunch and everyone can head on their way..
Here are some thoughts..
Whoever is getting a permit and going on the beach, here is the list of items required (They sometime check, be prepared).
Tire Air pressure gauge capable of reading 5psi min.
Fishing poles (1 per person over the age of 12, doesnt matter if they are fishing or not, they need one)
Fishing tackle, lures, bait, etc..
A 12" piece of wood for a jack board
A Jack
A portable toilet (5 gallon bucket with garbage bags, worked for me)
A Shovel (collapsable type is fine)
Air compressor of some type (I have plenty to go around if need be)
A Tow strap (or some type)
Max tire size of 33x12.5 (I've never seen that one enforced)
I think that covers it.
Obviously We'll get a more definitive list of items that Brandon and Myself and other locals will be bringing to make it easier on us, but for now this should be fine.
Any ideas, suggestions, comments, etc..
PLEASE post em. Nothing is set in stone yet, I am open to ideas and suggestions.
