They're pretty good but usually burn out in about a year.

I run 'em and I am pretty sure XterraVT does too.

word.

I like them and to me they're worth it. I think Dave is going with even higher (probably illegal) power lights

I've had the Ultras for about 2 year now, and love them. The ultras are supposed to last longer than the standard silverstars.

Post subject:  Sylvania's SilverStar Bulbs SUCK...Don't Waste Your Time...

Let me clarify: Their longevity sucks, which is too bad because they do give out a lot more light than the OEM bulbs. Some history: My Cherokee burned through them in about 6 months. Went back to AZone. They said they haven't had issues, so I bought another set thinking I may have gotten my crap covered paws on the back side of the lamp while installing, thereby reducing the life expectancy. 6 months later...same thing. I go back to AZone only to have the sales folks say they've been having issues with them, probably because they "get too hot because they're so bright." ???? I write Osram Sylvania's president and head of engineering to tell them what's up. I get a nice apology note and a new set of lamps for free with the offer to have them test out my electrical system at their engineering facility in NH to make sure nothing is wrong with my buggy that's causing the premature failures. I get tested (WOW...that sounds loaded) 6 months later...you guessed it. Burnt out and so was my patience. Flash forward a year: Cherokee gone (RIP...I did love her), my new luv of course a 2004 X. First "upgrade" - SilverStars, figuring the bulb replacement was maybe more reliable than the full lamps like in the Cherokee since the X's OEM bulbs don't put out much light in my honest opinion. 6 months later, I found myself reaching into the glove box to pull out the original bulbs that I had replaced after BOTH SilverStars failed to work on low beams, and was cursing Sylvania for screwing me again. Hopefully they can fix this issue since they are certainly brighter, but until then, fahget 'bout it.
