Yes, the U-joint part is spicer 5153x or neapco 1-0154..

IS this the same front and rear shafts? We need to replace Peppers and want to make sure to get the right ones.

Just called NAPA and they do not even list one? WTF! If it is a spicer 1310 I know where to get it. Or Tom has a 5153? Are they the same? Just want to buy it once..... wait is it different for the 05 - newer?

Thanks

The part # I listed is for the front or rear on a 1st gen (listed as for the Frontier at NAPA) I have no idea what fits what on the 2nd gens, sorry.

The u-joints are all the same on both driveshafts.
They are all 1310 standard U-joints
4 total.

Sorry Chris, looks like the only guys that answer with any conviction on mechanical questions are us old farts trying to keep their 1st gens (real Xterras) alive. Tell Pep to sell that egg crate and buy a used ?00 or ?01 or better yet a Jeep like she really wants to.

On the 1st gens Nissan does not list that you can get parts for the drive shaft (or LCAs) but that you must buy the whole unit. Meanwhile the parts from Frontiers made in the same years are all interchangeable and you are able to get the parts (U-Joints, ball joints for the LCAs, etc.). Sooo, when we 1st gen?ers are looking for parts from NAPA (etc.) we sometimes look for Frontier parts. I'm not sure if the same holds true for 2nd gens but it might be worth checking on ether XOC, NOR or the new X boards (I almost never go on those). Hope that helps, sorry I don't know more. Stupid 2nd gens.

Tom,
I believe the reason why Frontier parts are listed and not Xterra parts is because the frontier came out in 1997, not 2000.
So maybe they feel that 2000's should have u-joint issues. ;)

I forgot to grease my front driveshaft which is why the u-joints need replacing, only took 106k miles for that to happen. :(

I find that the non grease able u-joints that come on our trucks last pretty long and since they are sealed, tend to keep water/mud out better than the grease able ones. You must admit that over 100 miles is pretty damn good for a u-joint that you abused the way you did and never had to maintain. When ever I?ve crapped out trying to get a part for my ?01 because they say I must buy a whole unit I just ask for the same part for a ?01 Frontier, has not failed yet.

I agree 100% about the stock ones. Since I fell into the greasable ones, I couldnt argue.

Don't forget the greasable ones are HOLLOW and are not as strong as the solid ones are...
