Yes i think they are they are connected. Get the ABS wire fixed and you should be good.

The 2005+ Xterras will not engage 4WD without all ABS sensors working. If one ABS sensor breaks, rips or shorts out the system will not allow 4WD to engage. You have to get your ABS fixed.

You can do a quick trail fix by splicing in some wire (or re-attaching the wiring with some electrical tape) and it'll allow you to re-engage 4wd, assuming it didn't rip right at the sensor. You'll want to replace the wiring after this trail fix.

I had the same problem ABS sensor went, so did the 4wd. After fixing it I had to disconnect the battery so it reset the computer.

I have heard you can pull the ABS fuse to manully override the system and get into 4LO when this happens. However, this will take away your Spedometor and some other functions. I am still looking into this but hope someone who knows will chime in. Where are you all getting your replacement lines? I have gotten Titan lines in the past which are a direct fit and a couple inches longer but have a habit of snapping them. At this point im thinking about just splicing in a longer wire.
