33s will do you well.
I wheeled on them for a while and didn't have any complaints.

This discussion is virtually pointless without talking about wheel offset and tire width. A 33x12.5 on a wheel that has 2" less back-spacing than stock is completly different than a 33x10.5 on a stock wheel.
With a PML and 2"BL, you could probably get away with a narrow 34" tire (like the 34x10.5 LTB) on stock wheels with moderate trimming. I haven't done it personally, but if a 33x10.5 will fit, what's another 1/2" all the way around?

I have 35's on my '00 X with a SLR suspension lift in the front and fiberglass fenders. It has worked well and only needed very minor sheet metal trimming. Tires don't rub on compression and only the tiniest of bit when i'm at full lock in a turn. Only broken one CV over the years with the 35s.
