So here's what I did with my Sunday.
The NEIAS isn't an industry show, it's consumer-oriented, which means that any car that you can buy today is on display. It's kinda nice to be able to sit in them and look around without being harassed by a sales person.
There were some test-driving opportunities - Toyota, Kia, and Chevy all had reps, and I got to get into the Z71 Colorado above (they listed a diesel on the computer but it wasn't available). Thing makes my Xterra feel like a tractor, it's really smooth and quiet even on Duratracs. I really fell in love with it and now I have a strong replacement for the X in a few years, assuming the Z72 is worth a damn and they're not all falling apart by then.
There was the odd prototype/one-off here and there. Nothing nuts. Hyundai brought a pretty ballsy lifted Santa Fe from SEMA; Ford had an EcoSport, and Toyota brought a hydrogen-powered Mirai.
Oops, this was bad. Read more here:
http://www.hyundainews.com/us/en/media/ ... ncept-off1So those were neat, but of course all the fun is in trying on different vehicles for size...
How's it fit?
Actually my first time sitting inside a JK...I kinda get it. But I don't think I'd get it.
I used to like the 4Runner and Taco a lot more (not shown: orange Taco TRD Off-Road). I learned a while ago that the exhaust sits stupidly low on them, and they feel smaller on the inside than they look.
Not a new or unique Silverado, but not one I've seen in person. Just an appearance package with Duratracs.
Single-cab Titan.
Patrolmada! It's had its teeth pulled but it's still a piece of Nissan offroad heritage.
Very orange on the inside.
Not gonna lie, the Ridgeline was pretty neat.
Spent some time chatting with the MV-1 people (who were relegated to the aftermarket display). I have no need for one, but I love them anyway.
A group I partner with pretty often was painting up this Acura.
I really, really like the Colorado. I used to like the Canyon more, but give me this in a ZR1/2 any day. Also, I never knew the extended cabs had suicide doors.
There was this, though.
Love that gray.
Not sure if I'll go again next year (unless it's gifted to me again) - cars don't change that much and nothing interesting seems to be in the pipe for another two years (Wrangler, Ranger, hopefully a new Frontier). But not a bad way to spend a day.
