It’s snug but it works very well. The campers that are designed for this size truck are far wider than the one we have. The nice part about that is the camper isn’t much wider than the truck. If we decide to go adventure out into the wilds of Utah or something similar, we won’t be 8’ wide like my buddy who I camped with this weekend’s camper.
There is some wasted room between the body of the camper and the bed sides (over the wheel wells) that is like to find a good use for. Some of our ideas for this space are, a 40lb forklift style propane tank on either side, mounted forward, towards the cab. Those tanks can be used horizontally. And extra water storage towards the rear on the driver side. The rear passenger bed is already taken up by the onboard air compressors and tank.
Our major concerns for our road trip are water and propane. We would like to be able to be away from civilization for as long as a week at a time. So fresh drinking water and grey water storage is something we are thinking heavily about. And propane runs our refrigerator, hot water, heat, generator, and cooking, so we’re interested in keeping as much of that onboard as possible also.
