Years ago, I installed this
PAC AAI-NIS2 Auxiliary Audio Input onto the back of my RF stereo in my '06. You can see it here:
I had also bought a cheap 3.5mm aux port to connect to the RCA cables on the device, which I mounted under the dash.
Fast forward to a month ago. I picked up this
Mpow Bluetooth Adapter. Since the aux port's mount wasn't the best, the weight of this adapter (which is only a few ounces) caused the aux port to come off its mount, and broke the soldered wires on the back.
After some searching around, I found this:
Universal 2.1A USB Car Charger with 3.5mm AUX Port for Rocker Switch Panel. The compatibility tool on the page said it didn't work with a 2006 Xterra, but I didn't know what criteria it was basing that off of.
Thanks to ZheKing over on TheNewX, I ended up buying it cheaper from Amazon -
Universal 2.1A USB Car Charger with 3.5mm AUX Port for Rocker Switch Panel. It arrived a week or so go, and I was able to find some time to install it this past weekend.
What I ended up doing was take out the old AUX port, and then installed one of these
Cable audio Stereo 3.5mm female to 2 RCA male to the female RCA connectors coming off the PAC Audio device.
Then I plugged the male 3.5mm stereo plug coming off the back of the new AUX/USB post into that.
Once that was done and tested, I pushed the AUX/USB port into the switch blank and *CLICK* - it fit perfectly!
I have not wired up the USB port yet. That will be a little later when I install a fuse panel for that port and a few other items. In the meantime, however, prior to installing it, I had my coworker solder on an extra 3' of 18 ga cable to the back of the leads. I coiled it up and have it tucked up under the dash for now.
The main thing I wanted was to replace the AUX port with a sturdier, cleaner looking one, and this definitely works!
