Has anyone recharged their own Air COnditioning on a first gen X?
I ask cause my AC started to die at the end of last summer - the fan works, but the "cold" air was getting warmer and warmer as the summer ran along. Now that summer is coming up again, I wanted to know if it was worth taking this job on myself, or if I should just go to a mechanic.

I had a leak on the High side of mine last summer. The high line runs right next to the drivers side of the radiator. Mine had some corrosion and you could see the dried dye at the leadk point. Its a pretty common leak for the first gens.
The replacement line was about $75 at autozone, and only took a few minutes to replace, although I did it at the same time as my timeing belt, so everything was out of the way.
I recharged it myself with the kits from autozone, and it is still working great! Granted, its not as good as stock, it still cools the X down pretty good on a 95 degree day, and for less than a shop would charge for a recharge, i was able to fix it and recharge it myself.

I'll check that line out, see it it's corroded at all.
For the dye test, what kind of dye did you use? (Yeah, stupid question, but I've never worked on the AC in anything before)

IIRC Nissan actually had the leak dye added so it would just be a matter of using a black light to find the leak, fixing broken part and then a recharge to the system. Best thing would be to get a black light and check out the AC parts for the leak. I would almost bet the high or low lines finally blew a leak (at least that is what I have read, where most of the problems occur).

The high pressure hose is a common failure after several years on the X. I replaced mine last spring.
It's not a bad job and pressurizing is fairly easy with a kit from an auto parts store. Mine took more than one canister to recharge.

The dye was it my system already, don't know if it came that way though as I picked it up used.
Mine took two canisters as well.

Did a check with the blacklight - nothing glowed...
Gonna check again later when it's a bit darker, I wonder if the sunlight was making the blacklight ineefective. I really couldn't get my work area as dark as I would have liked.
