So how important is it to have a winch at this event?

We used Tom's last year at least once to get me up over the lip of the ledge on the first obstacle.

He used it to get himself over it too.

So, it might be pretty much a requirement.

But, if you mean just the day to day wheeling, you don't need it.

It's only important if you get stuck and you are left alone...that's probably not going to happen at ECXC.

6 years and I still don't have one..

It has always taken second in the debates...

Locker vs Winch... Locker

Crawler Gears vs Winch,,,, Crawler gears

Design new leaf packs vs. winch... leaves

Lift in the garage or winch... Lift is winning

Down payment on the garage upgrades or winch... UPgrades are winning.

One day I too will own a winch and be no longer dragging others though the mud and rock... Mike Wolf and Anthony have both been on that sleigh ride... Fun times.

Pulled mine out twice last year to help some people. Other wise I don't see needing it at ECXC as there is always someone in the group with one.

If you do the challenge I believe it's a Must have.

Good thing you've got one, Dave

You most likely don't need a winch doing the trail runs. 9 times out of 10 there'll be someone behind/in front that can give you a tug quicker than it would be to pull out a winch line.

MaineChick I would like to hear the story. It is probably pretty funny and will be even more so after several beers.
