Welcome to the ECXC 2024 Trail Group Discussion!

The East Coast Xterra Challenge (ECXC) is an Nissan only event.

There will be three (3) Group types; "Green" or “Stock”, "Blue" or “Intermediate” and “Black" or "Advanced”

Attendees will not be “Locked” into a group.
Preference for a “Trail Leader” will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis.
Trails that are run by a group are determined by that Groups ”Trail Leader”.

"Green" or “Stock” - Stock trails range in difficulty from flat dirt roads to slightly off-camber and rocky trails. Stock trails are best suited for inexperienced wheelers and bone stock vehicles. Threat of vehicle damage is non-existent as long as you drive responsibly, however brush scratches are possible. Stock Trails include easier green trails.

"Blue" or “Intermediate” - Intermediate trails offer more of a challenge for slightly modified vehicles. Trails will be rockier, may have more off camber situations and may include rocky creek crossings. Bone stock vehicles can handle most of these trails, but without skid plates and rock sliders, both undercarriage damage and rocker panel damage should be expected. The threat of damage on these trails is minimal but should not be unexpected. Careless or inattentive driving will result in body damage. Harder Green trails and easier Blue Trails at Rausch Creek would be taken in this group.

"Black or “Advanced” –I wouldn’t run them without 33’s or bigger, a winch, full protection, a carefree attitude towards damage, the tools/parts/ability and supplies to repair breakage. Blue, Blue/Black, Black trails (depending on group make-up) will be run by this group. This Group will not be an assigned “Trail Leader”. As soon as any two or more trucks show up in the morning, they can go run trails and not stand around waiting for someone to hold their hand. If you are in any way uncomfortable with this, you should run with an "Blue" or “Intermediate” group...at least for the first day.
On Friday everyone running in the "Black or “Advanced” group will be part of the 2024 ECXC Competition (details to follow).

No one (Stock, Intermediate or Advanced) is required to run within a “Group” with a “Trail Leader”.
If there are at least Two trucks together just give an ECXC Event Staff Member a heads up and a cell number (so we can make sure you are out of the park and safe at the end of the day) and go.

Drivers Meeting;

1. All attendees (drivers & passengers) must sign the AOAA online waiver; HERE. The AOAA "Smartwaiver" is submitted electronically, prior to arriving to the park is valid for one year, no need to print anything out.

2. All Drivers and their Guests check in at the AOAA Office each day of the event.

3. All Drivers and their Guests must have their daily AOAA wrist band on their wrist (not your grab handle) before they enter the park and presented upon request by any member of the AOAA or ECXC24 Staff.

4. The plan. Get an idea of what to run and what to expect.

5. Seatbelts must be worn by everyone.

6. Drivers should inspect their trucks before and after the run; apply the emergency brake whenever the vehicle is parked, avoid hanging on a vehicle that is stuck or being recovered and no alcohol or drugs on the trail.

7. Caravan rules. All drivers are responsible for the trailing vehicle. After clearing an obstacle or fork in the road, from a safe distance look back to make sure the other vehicle is still following and hasn’t got stuck or lost. Wait for your turn on difficult obstacles, keep up but don’t tailgate. Last truck (tail gunner) should have a winch or at the very least a decent front tow point. Pull over to the side of the trail, leaving room for a vehicle to pass, whenever you stop for more than a few minutes.

8. Spotting procedures. All drivers should ask for help. Before offering help make sure the driver wants help. One spotter is in charge. Everyone else STFU unless asked for help by the spotter in charge. Review the hand signals you intend to use before spotting someone.

9. Assign a CB/HAM channel for each group. Trail Master and /or club officials in attendance should have knowledge of each groups CB/HAM channel and the cell number of each Trail Leader. Drivers without a working radio should be placed in the middle of the group.

10. Medical risks. Does anyone in the group, drivers and passengers, have any medical concerns the Trail Leader should be aware of. Review any weather-related issues such as heatstroke, and sunburn. Review importance of staying hydrated, using bug repellent and sunscreen.

11. Environmental concerns. Make sure everyone knows to clean up after themselves, dispose of hazardous liquids, and otherwise take good care of the environment. What they take in must be brought out. Take care with matches and smoking materials. Aware of wasps, yellow jackets, snakes, bears, etc. Tread lightly and stay on the trail.

12. Everyone should be off the trails by 1700 (5pm). The AOAA office closes at 1800 (6pm).
Saturday everyone off the trails by 1600 (4:00pm) because the Cookout is at 1730 (5:30). Folks can run trails until 1700 (5pm) if they want but they are on their own. ECXC24 Staff will off duty at 1630 (4:30).
