I started bringing up ideas over at LINXC.com to gauge interest, now I bring them here to see what you guys think..
Obviously feel free to suggest ideas as well.
Nothing is set at all, Just gauging interest in particular events..

1. Indoor Rock Climbing on Long Island (about 40 minutes from Manhattan right off of LIE)
Basically have a member sign up, and I'll make a reservation for however many people interested. We'll probably get a discount.
They will give everyone a course on how to tie yourself in for climbing, and how to Belay (anchor for person climbing). You can rent out climbing shoes, and the harness..
They have over 59 different ropes set up already for climbing. And they have a seperate Bouldering area, in addition to a large area with tables to chill out at..
After we're bored with Rock climbing, we can hit a local restaurant/bar.
If people want to crash overnight, we can get a campsite or there are tons of hotels off LIE as well..
And we can do some local offroading trails on sunday or whatever..

2. Long Island Beach day (Fishing, Beach wheeling, BBQ, etc).
I have to figure out exactly where out-of-towners can drive on the beach legally for a weekend, etc.. The place I was hoping to use may be closed due to errosion. ugh..
Pretty much a weekend of camping, light beach wheeling, fishing, and BBQ. And camping close to the beach in tents, or sleeping in your truck on the beach. (No tents are allowed on the beach)..

3.. Xcentrk (Brandon) and I have been scouting trails, and we have found a bunch of light wheeling trails to play on. And they are only as difficult as you want them to be. Everything had bypasses, so far.. Nothing that will break your truck, just fun light wheeling for a day or weekend..
Still working on where exactly would be the best area, depending on the number of trucks involved..

4. May 20th/21st, Long Island Lighthouse challenge.
http://www.longislandlighthouses.com/challenge.htm
It's like an 'Amazing Race' kinda thing to check out all of the lighthouses on long island in a weekend.
At each of the lighthouses you receive a souvenir to signify that you went there. There is a fixed amount of lighthouses to check out over the weekend. And there are raffles and crap.
Here's an FAQ for it. http://www.longislandlighthouses.com/challenge.htm#FAQs
Several of us were planning on attending this.. It could be a good way for you 'upstaters' to explorer most of long island in a weekend of insane driving. ;)

5..We could always take the trucks into manhattan. But I think parking would be a bitch.. Might be an idea though..

Any suggestions, comments, ideas??
Thanks!

I like the Long Island Beach day idea..maybe combined with some light wheeling. I've never done any beach wheeling and would like to.

Sounds like a great idea, Ken. All great.

Caravaning through Manhattan may make the taxi drivers think twice for once. Particularly with a bunch of Yellow X's. :D

I like the beach idea.

Depending on where you park they will hit you for an extra few dollars because you drive an SUV. Funny I live less than 10 miles from the city yet only go twice a year.

It is definitely possible to have everyone meet in NJ cross the GWB head down the HH thru Times Square down broadway across on 34th and out the mid-town tunnel to the LIE.

Everyone will either cross at the Tappan Zee, GWB or Verazano (sic).

I'll start looking into which beaches are open this coming season and where the nearest camping/hotel accomodations would be. The beach would be the easiest to put together as well. ;) thanks!

Ken, thanks. We should begin to come up with a date as well. Time can really fly by and spring gets really busy for me.

I would hate to miss this one. :D

No problem. I have to make sure that this can happen first. Then we can vote on dates. :)

NO WAY! You guys have your own beaches. LOL
just kidding. Whats up Gene?
You guys are definitely welcome to Long Island to chill with us.
Now all that's left is everything.. I have to figure out exactly where we are allowed to get a weekend permit to enjoy the beaches.
I'd hate for you guys to get a NYstate permit ($49) just for a weekend of beach fishing/wheeling and bbqing.

Gene, you can mention that I'm planning this, on Nexterra message board as well if you'd like.
It will be a weekend of camping (near the beach), light beach wheeling, fishing, and bbqing on eastern long island with LINXC, and UNYX, and hopefully Nexterra would like to join us.
